Westhampton path cam: Best of 2020
WESTHAMPTON — As much as our pondside trail cam was anxious, 2020 arrived in like a coyote and went out like a single as properly.
No shock there. Coyotes get far more lively during the winter months as breeding period gets underway and iced-more than ponds and wetlands open up much more territory in which they can roam. Their breeding period peaks in mid-February, in accordance to MassWildlife. Bobcats, which breed from February to March, also get far more lively this time of calendar year.
For the initially time in yrs, drought almost emptied the pond mid-summer time. But the rain and snow that adopted this slide and winter quickly filled it back again up once more.
Although beavers made this pond and the in depth wetlands all around it, we didn’t get any decent footage of them this year. They are nevertheless all-around, but in smaller sized numbers than earlier a long time. Maybe the drought or the exhaustion of their favored foodstuff compelled some of them to transfer on.
The crashing snag or useless tree in early August came courtesy of Tropical Storm Isaisas, which still left hundreds of hundreds of households and enterprises without having electric power throughout the condition. The fallen tree served as a bridge for bears and other wildlife for a time until most of it disappeared below the increasing drinking water.
