‘Victory Will Be Ours’: The citizens of Limany stand defiant on the Russian frontline

Nadia Weissman, 77, is the only man or woman left in her block. Her village of Limany, in Southern Ukraine, will come underneath continuous shelling, just 8 kilometres from the Russian front line. Her home windows have been blown out, by a shell that also punched a hole into the village hall.
“I was shocked by the seem,” she says. “I saw the shrapnel fly from the effects. I was not strike but my window shattered, and the shrapnel melted holes in my curtains.”
The previous headmistress says she won’t leave. “I really don’t want to go to a further county and be preserved like a museum artefact – this is my land. I’m convicted victory will be ours, in spite of how tough and bitter the victory will be.”
Even though in northern Ukraine the Russians have retreated, it is pretty the opposite in the East and South. If everything, the retreat from Kyiv could spell increased difficulties here, as the Russians regroup and target their marketing campaign on the Donbas and the southern shoreline.
Nadia defiantly describes her little village as “the defend of Mykoliav.” The port town of Mikoliav is the major shipbuilding hub of the Black Sea. It blocks Russia’s road the investing hub of Odesa, and Nadia’s so referred to as “protect” is just a village of small holdings to the south, in which the typically retired population live in terror. As I’m leaving, Nadia states, “Explain to the environment to close the skies above Ukraine.”
Limany is commonly 3,000 in inhabitants, but most have fled. The roadways are peaceful help you save the occasional audio of shelling. As we drive by means of, we are met by the National guard who escort us to meet the village head, Nataly Panashiy.
