Saint Mary’s begins vaccinating health care workers in Reno
Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno starting vaccinating staff against COVID-19 Wednesday afternoon. They’re part of the first health care workers to receive the first doses. Staff at all of the county’s four hospitals will also receive vaccines.
Washoe County received more than 3,600 Pfizer’s vaccines Tuesday morning. The county is expected to receive a second COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna when the FDA approves it. That’s expected to happen this week.
The vaccines will be distributed in 4 tiers:
- Tier 1: Vaccines will go to hospital workers, long-term care staff and residents, EMS, pharmacists, correctional staff, and law enforcement
- Tier 2: Vaccines are for essential workers and inmates, including education and childcare staff
- Tier 3: Includes the homeless, people with underlying health conditions and the elderly
- Tier 4: Vaccines are for the general public
COVID-19 vaccines for the public are expected in spring of 2021.
