Midland emergency food network grateful for support
To the editor:
The Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network held its 20th mobile food pantry of last year in the parking lot of the EFPN office and SAMS pantry on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
This event was funded by the many generous donors to the network in support of its mission of “Always food in every home.” Eighteen volunteers served 147 families (430 individuals) who remained in their vehicles for the drive-through, no-contact food delivery. The 15,900 pounds of food purchased from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint included holiday boxes of pre-packed food items supplemented with cereal, rice, beans, soup, water, potatoes, frozen meat and personal care items. Families also received gift certificates for the purchase of fresh produce and dairy products at Family Fare in Midland as well as recipes provided by the Health Department of MidMichigan Medical Center. A limited amount of pet food was donated by the Humane Society of Midland County.
The network is very grateful to the many donors of food, money and time throughout the year to the network’s mission of “Always food in every home.” Midland County resident in (financial) need of food and personal care items during the year may call the network at 989-486-9393 to leave your name and phone number so that you may receive an appointment at one of our eight food pantries located throughout Midland County.
