Middlesbrough’s newest Chinese restaurant ready to fire up the ovens
A Chinese restaurant and takeaway is coming to Middlesbrough.
Fortune Cookie Express is ready to open on the town’s Linthorpe Road, as soon as it considered safe to do so.
The 50-cover eatery, which already has a branch in Newcastle, has taken over the old KFC in the town.
Its owners are carrying out a few finishing touches and say they are waiting for the right time to open – which is likely to be early January.
A spokesperson said: “We were going to open next week but we are deciding on what is the safest option for our staff.
“In the past, when we’ve opened other businesses we’ve had lots of people coming in for the first few days.
“It’s a first for Middlesbrough and the only Chinese in the country that does Italian desserts.
“You can get Chinese food and cookie dough as well.
“The food is authentic, healthy – all Chinese food is healthy if it’s authentically made.
“It’s fresh, only takes a few minutes to cook and there is no oil.”
With their Newcastle branch a success, they had “already made arrangements” to open a second venue in Middlesbrough before lockdown.
They added: “We saw this place, it was the former KFC before it moved next-door and has been empty for a long time.
“It was just what we were looking for.”
