Giorgios Bakatsias Announces Osteria Georgi, a New Community Italian Eatery

Giorgios Bakatsias is increasing his neighborhood culinary empire with a new Italian family-type restaurant at 201 South Elliott Highway in Chapel Hill. 

Osteria Georgio is named for Bakatsias’s superior mate, the late George Tarantini. The restaurant is slated to open in the former Dwelling Kitchen space later on this spring and will serve brunch, lunch, and evening meal, and will emphasis on pastas, braised meats, and antipasta, with exclusive interest to locally-sourced components. 

Tarantini, the beloved longtime mentor of N.C. State’s men’s soccer staff, was born in Italy and died in Raleigh in 2019 at the age of 70. 

“George had this sort of adore and regard for hospitality, and for all the modest details that make it these types of a unique way of connecting with every other,” Bakatsias mentioned in a statement. 

Daniel Jackson, a Chapel Hill native and UNC-Chapel Hill graduate, joins as spouse and chef.
