Gardening: consuming natural and organic

Organic vegetables from Henry's garden not only look good but they taste great, too.

I have been increasing vegetables organically all my existence. I use no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. I do not generally imagine about the causes I do so, anymore than I believe about respiration — it is just anything I do.

I just lately picked up a e book written by Maria Rodale termed “The Organic and natural Manifesto: How Organic and natural Farming Can Recover Our Earth, Feed the World, and Hold Us Secure,” (Rodale Press, 2010), and it reminded me why I do so. I’d like to share some of the vital details with you here.

In the introduction, Eric Schlosser (creator of the incredible book “Speedy Food stuff Nation”) offered some stark points: American farmers use 1.2 billion pounds of pesticides every 12 months — 4 pounds for each individual guy, lady and kid. Some of these pesticides — the organophosphates — had been to start with formulated in Germany in WWII as chemical weapons. The federal federal government does not involve reporting of use, and tests is finished by producers, not the EPA or USDA. Most food items has some pesticide residue — besides for organic and natural food items, which shouldn’t have any.
