A Household Affair Soulfood Kitchen aims to cook up consolation food for Fond du Lac

A Family Affair Soulfood Kitchen area is established to provide a distinctive meals working experience, complete with an out of doors barbecue smoker, to 417 S. Key St., Fond du Lac.

Proprietor Arletta Allen has leased the developing previously occupied by 11:11 Burgers & Beignets cafe, which relocated to the previous-Pizza Hut site on the corner of West Johnson Street and North Peters Avenue.

Allen has finished renovations to the constructing to enhance cafe functions and delivers to the business enterprise a long time of practical experience in fast meals and retail operations, according to a prospectus she offered to the town.

She indicated the cafe will serve typically takeout dining with some restricted indoor and outdoor seating and supply “comforting, homestyle cuisine with deep southern roots from the coronary heart of Mississippi.”

Everyday specials will round out a menu that features fried hen, smothered pork chops, deep fried catfish, ribs, chitterlings, shrimp and grits, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, black-eyed peas, corn bread and buttermilk biscuits, and pound cake and pecan pie, to title just a couple of the selections.

Allen describes her eyesight of the eatery: “With the savory smell of people who smoke cooking our barbecue ribs to perfection, along with down house rhythm and blues and nation music filling the environment and a plate of the finest food stuff you have at any time tasted.”

“We prepare to put together and serve foodstuff that speaks to our lifestyle and the underserved demographics in northeastern Wisconsin,” she wrote.

Her love of standard cooking traces back to her childhood, expanding up in Yazoo Town, Mississippi and what she phone calls “Soul food Sundays.”

“As little ones we knew that straight pursuing church company, Mama would be having a total great deal of almost nothing for ingredients and building a little something specific,” Allen wrote. “We ended up exceptionally very poor in wealth but rich in like.”

Soulfood has its personal language, she wrote, that transcends cultural distinctions.

Allen has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Marian College, with a slight in organization conversation. She currently serves on the Fond du Lac Town Council and is founder of a non-financial gain dedicated to serving to younger ladies create self esteem and worth training.

According to her prospectus, she has been career shadowing her landlord and proprietor of 11:11, Ryonen Faris, and perfectly as instruction with Natasha Banking companies, who operates the soul food restaurant The Cozy Corner, and the Jerk Joint Jamaican cafe, both equally in Appleton.

Hrs are established for 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday as a result of Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to midnight Friday, 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Breakfast is made available from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
