Abu Dhabi: Authorities in Saudi Arabia have shut down 48 restaurants and fined 321 others in Asir for breaking basic safety policies and restrictions.

The closures came as municipality groups inspected 374 restaurants and eateries in the province, neighborhood media documented on Wednesday.

The teams reported that 144 dining establishments and cafeterias did not comply with sanitation principles and that some of them experienced to be shut down for critical violations.

Far more than 1,500kg of meals unfit for human use ended up confiscated and destoryed during the inspections, they explained.
